246 airfields lie within 250 kilometres of Holzkirchen. On top of that there are 89 ultralight sites, gliding sites and small special landing sites that are not in the AIP – they have their own page: Ultralight and Gliding Sites. This page shows the 96 in Germany and Austria up to 200 km and in Slovenia; the 45 German and Austrian airfields between 200 and 250 km are on Airfields 200 to 250 km. Italy (83 airfields up to 280 km, i.e. as far as Lake Garda, including aviosuperfici and campi di volo), the Czech Republic (29 airfields, including the ultralight strips) and Switzerland (13 airfields) have their own pages: Airfields in Italy, Airfields in the Czech Republic and Airfields in Switzerland. Up to 150 kilometres this page says for every airfield whether prior permission is needed, whether there is mogas, whether anyone cooks and what else makes the place special. This now also applies to all airfields beyond that.

As of September 2026 (detailed cards: Germany and Austria up to 250 km – from 200 km on a separate page –, Slovenia all, others up to 150 km). Fuel, PPR requirements and operating hours were checked on 9 September 2026 against the AIP VFR Germany (edition 20 AUG 2026) and the Austrian AIP respectively; every card links to the airfield's AIP page at the bottom. All other information comes from the websites of the airfields and their clubs. Operating hours, PPR rules, fuel types and restaurant opening times change frequently and often at short notice, and mogas is often available without being listed in the AIP. The AIP and NOTAM are binding – this page is meant to make the choice easier, not to replace flight planning.

Country specifics
The border changes three things above all: whether your ultralight may enter at all, which airfields will take it and what has to be reported when crossing the border. A brief summary for a German ultralight such as the D-MRBT – as of October 2026, without guarantee; the AIP and the national authority are binding.
🇩🇪 Germany
Ultralights only land at airfields that permit ultralight aircraft – this is stated in the airfield description or must be asked of the operator. Many special landing sites require PPR. Both have been checked for the detailed cards, not yet for the basic data. AIP VFR
🇦🇹 Austria
German ultralights and licences are recognised; no entry permit is required. Which aircraft an airfield accepts is stated in the eAIP under "Zugelassen für" (approved for): an ultralight counts as a powered aircraft, limited only by the maximum mass (MTOM). Where it says "Motorflugzeuge nur mit behördlicher Genehmigung" (powered aircraft only with official authorisation) – e.g. Kufstein-Langkampfen, Micheldorf, Linz-Ost – clarify beforehand. Among other things, the noise certificate and an ELT or PLB must be carried. A flight plan is required for crossing the border – except by day in airspace G and E with the Mode S transponder switched on. Transition altitude 10,000 ft; airspace G reaches considerably higher than at home. More on our page Austria.
🇨🇭 Switzerland
German ultralights need a special permission from the FOCA (BAZL); the type must be on the FOCA list – the A22 LS (type data sheet DULV 991-22) is on it. Apply at least 10 working days in advance, for at most two months per year. Switzerland is not part of the EU customs union: plan for customs on entry and exit, flight plan for the border crossing. All 13 airfields within 250 km with details on Airfields in Switzerland.
🇮🇹 Italy
Entry is free for ultralights from the EU, but under Italian law German ultralights are initially regarded as "Basico". Aeroporti only if the AIP (AD 1.3) says "Advanced ULM: Yes" there – ask in writing beforehand. Aviosuperfici and campi di volo only with the operator's permission. A flight plan is mandatory for the border crossing, transponder throughout the country; it is better to travel via Austria than via Switzerland. More on Italy with an ultralight; all 83 airfields within 280 km (as far as Lake Garda) on Airfields in Italy.
🇨🇿 Czech Republic
Foreign ultralights may fly without prior permission if all conditions of the civil aviation authority ÚCL are met: the type meets the Czech ultralight definition, valid technical certificate from the state of registry, liability insurance, licence and medical, VFR by day only, non-commercial. If anything is missing, a permit from the ÚCL is required. Check the flight plan and border formalities in the Czech AIP. ÚCL – Foreign Ultralight Aircraft All 29 airfields within 250 km, including the ultralight strips: Airfields in the Czech Republic.
🇸🇮 Slovenia
Foreign ultralights with a permit to fly or an equivalent document of their state may fly in Slovenia. In the flight plan, "UL" goes in the remarks; in addition, insurance valid in Slovenia, a noise certificate and radio approval. Austria as a transit country recognises German ultralights. Clarify beforehand
For these airfields it could not be established whether ultralights may land. That does not mean it is forbidden – it just isn't written anywhere. A phone call settles it in a minute.
- Mindelheim-Mattsies EDMN · 91 km
Factory airfield of GROB Aircraft SE with 720 m asphalt. According to the description, aeroplanes, motor gliders and gliders up to 5700 kg are permitted; no ultralight approval is published anywhere.
Oberpfaffenhofen (EDMO, 39 km) is missing from the map and this list: according to the information available, the airfield only accepts aircraft over two tonnes. Also not included are the military airfields, the airports of Munich, Innsbruck, Salzburg and Memmingen and the pure glider sites.
How this list came about
The basis is an open airfield database, filtered to Germany and Austria, to 150 kilometres in a straight line from Holzkirchen and to airfields with an ICAO code. I then looked up each of these airfields individually on its own website. Where nothing was stated there, it says "not stated" here – and where the club website and the databases contradict each other, it says "call beforehand" instead of an invented number. This mainly concerns mogas at the small airfields.
I then cross-checked the fuel information against the DULV airfield database, which belongs to the association's mogas map. At sixteen airfields it differed from what was on the airfield website – mostly because the airfield website says nothing about fuel at all. Where both sources say something and contradict each other, this is now stated explicitly. The DULV also publishes its data "without guarantee" and only as a first overview; for fuel planning, the phone call remains.
Extension to 250 km (October 2026): the airfields from 150 km and some closer ones that were previously missing come from the free airfield database OurAirports (public domain, as of 10 October 2026) – without military airfields, major airports, heliports and seaplane bases. Name, track, elevation and runway were taken from there but not checked against the AIP. In the meantime they have been expanded into detailed cards or moved to the country pages.
